The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced on the 23rd that it held a business agreement ceremony between the Quantum Platform Research Hub Center and Quantum Graduate Schools to establish growth pathways for core talent who will lead South Korea’s quantum leap.
This agreement was pushed forward to support doctoral-level talent trained at quantum graduate schools so that they can continuously accumulate research capabilities in connection with research hubs at government-funded research institutes (Government-Funded Institutes), and to establish a cooperative foundation that organically connects universities with research fields.
The Quantum Platform Research Hub Center is a project that supports the vitalization of quantum research centered on Government-Funded Institutes and talent nurturing through the operation of Joint Quantum Laboratories (JQL) utilizing the open quantum research infrastructure built by these institutes. Currently, two institutions—the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS)—have been selected, and each center operates five joint laboratories.
For Quantum Graduate Schools, three institutions—Korea University, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and POSTECH—have been selected to nurture core doctoral-level talent across the entire spectrum of quantum computing, communication, and sensing.
Under this agreement, both sides plan to strengthen the connection between doctoral-level talent produced by quantum graduate schools and the research hubs of Government-Funded Institutes, share talent information, discover joint research projects, expand collaborative research, and jointly operate talent-nurturing programs.
Kyung-suk Yoon, Director General for R&D Policy Bureau at the MSIT, said, “This agreement is significant in that it connects the growth pathway from universities to actual research fields. We will continue our efforts to create a quantum ecosystem where talent nurturing, research, and industrial fields are organically linked based on the Quantum Master Plan.”
